The Gospel of John was written by the Apostle John, one of Jesus’ twelve apostles. He was the brother of James, another apostle. He grew up in Capernaum, by the Sea of Galilee and worked for his father Zebedee as a fisherman, along with his brother and two other apostles, Simon (Peter) and his brother Andrew.
He is also the author of three small letters in the New Testament called 1st John, 2nd John and 3rd John. And he had the unparalleled privilege of recording a vision of the end times given to him by the Holy Spirit. This is the last book of the Bible called Revelation.
Curiously, he never identifies himself by name in this gospel account, though he is a key character. Every reference to John in this gospel record is a reference to John the Baptist.
